wise words

If my post hit home with you yesterday, I had some wonderful words of wisdom fall into my lap that I just had to share. Thanks, Dad!
“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:
In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
-Isaiah 30:15 NRSV

There are some things in life that right now, I just need. Some of them are quite trivial like I am so obsessed with Bed Head, the ultimate funky hair gel for my short hairdo and I could smell my yummy Neutrogena Grapefruit face wash all day long… but I digress, what I REALLY need right now is inspiration.

I am like a yo-yo. One day I am up, up, up and can do all things and even dream of doing NEW things and then the next day, I go down, down, down. On my “up” days I feel like Superwoman and I am inspired to do everything (like blogging! and I think I have soooo much to say!) but then when I look at my action plan after the high of the “up” day has passed and try to muster up the courage to execute, I am already heading down and then I am where I am now. Spinning my wheels – knowing that I would LOVE to be doing more but it’s just not happening. Ugh.

Thank goodness I actually read my devotion for the day titled, It’s Ok To Be Human, and then I opened my email and again, took the time to read Bring the Rain (Angie Smith’s blog post) on having great intentions for her blog and losing sight of what she has set out to do. God’s timing is always spot on.

Here are some of her words that spoke directly to my heart:

“I’m going to be brutally honest in a way that genuinely hurts. I haven’t been able to write the way I want to. I haven’t had it in me. The words get stuck in my throat and I decide to skip the tap-tap of the keyboard and go grab lunch with a friend instead.

I haven’t been able to write because I haven’t been in His word the way I should be. I have been looking around me and shuffling my heart toward any shiny thing that takes off the glorious weight of Jesus.”

It is so much easier to fill my calendar with lunch dates and to-do’s – that is what I know right now. But what I NEED, is inspiration to go beyond what’s easy.

Thank goodness for women like Angie Smith who give us inspiration and perspective. I first heard about Angie through Women of Faith when she shared her heart-wrenching story of loss. She is back on the Women of Faith tour this year and if you are near the Des Moines area, I would LOVE to have you join me!

Women of Faith, is the most spiritually inspiring event I have ever attended. It’s that AMAZING! The speakers have a way of putting words to the feelings or struggles we haven’t had the courage to acknowledge or didn’t know how to say and there is always something said or shared by the speakers that was meant specifically for each of us to hear. Women of Faith is the God fuel we need to make changes in our lives and for me, it can’t get here quick enough!

We (a group of friends and I) are organizing a group of 200 women to attend the conference in Des Moines, IA this year. The event is Friday, August 24th beginning at 7pm and Saturday, August 25th from 9am-5pm. Last year we organized 100 women and this year, we took a huge leap of faith and are going for 200 women who want to be inspired! It is open to EVERYONE and I would LOVE for you (and your friends!) to be part of this weekend!

heart and soul

I try to spend as little time getting sucked into the internet as possible – I mean one wrong move and I am lost in youtube, pinterest or facebook and hours of my life are gone. Whoosh! I DO however have a secret crush and exception for a site called GodVine. They post inspiring videos that are good for your heart and soul and today’s, well I HOPE I can hit replay all day and get lost for hours listening to these guys slay (I stole that from Randy Jackson) one of the greatest songs ever written. If they were competing on American Idol, I would say they are ,”In it to win it!”

Happy Friday!

calling all curtains!

On my mission to put ruffles on everything (I’m obsessed!) I have been on the lookout for “the right” fabric. Criteria? Thin enough to pull a base stitch and gather, nearly the same color on both sides and great colors. The perfect match? Curtains… high quality, clearance curtains at my new BFF TJMaxx. As I was slicing and dicing the fabric, I couldn’t get over how COOL those grommets are on the top to slide the curtain across the bar, they must be used for something. After a light bulb moment and a couple of hours of sewing, I’m sporting a new messenger style bag. I’m no fortune teller, but I DO see grommets and a messenger style bag in the future at bagolitas boutique!
